The best home security camera systems: wireless kits and wired NVRs
Several cameras in one app, either wire-free with a base station or on cable to a recorder.

Wireless kit or wired system?
A camera system is several cameras that share one app and, ideally, one place where the footage is stored. There are two kinds, and the choice between them matters more than any brand.
A wireless kit puts battery or solar cameras on the walls and a base station indoors. It goes up in an afternoon with no cable runs, and it records events: the cameras sleep and wake on motion. The aosu D1 kit stores on its base with no plan; the Arlo kit is the more polished product and needs Arlo Secure for history.
A wired system, usually called CCTV or an NVR kit, runs one network cable to each camera and records everything, continuously, to a hard drive you own. It is the only kind that answers what happened at 3am when nothing triggered a sensor. Budget the install: four cable runs through an attic is a weekend if you are handy and several hundred dollars if not. The CCTV page goes deeper on wired systems.
The Tapo two-packs are here for a different reason: two cameras in one app for less than one premium camera, each recording to its own card. For a flat or a small house that is often all the system anyone needs.
