The best security cameras for watching pets
A pet camera has a different job from a security camera, and buying the wrong one is why people end up with two.

What actually matters here
Security cameras are built to record events and tell you about them. A pet camera is something you open on purpose, several times a day, to look at a specific animal who is probably not where you left them. That means pan and tilt matters far more than resolution, and a fixed camera pointed at an empty dog bed is the most common disappointment in this category.
Two-way audio is the second thing, and it is worth setting expectations: most dogs find a disembodied voice from a plastic box upsetting rather than comforting, and a significant number of people stop using the feature after a fortnight. Try it before you rely on it.
Motion detection behaves differently with animals in the house. A cat triggers a person-detection algorithm less often than you would expect and triggers plain motion constantly, so either use animal-aware detection or accept that the camera is for looking, not for alerting.
Finally, keep these on local storage. A camera indoors pointed at your living room all day is a camera worth keeping off anyone else's servers, and every pick here takes a card.
