Cameras for a shared hallway or entrance

In a shared building the limiting factor is almost never the camera.

What actually matters here

A camera covering a communal hallway records your neighbours going in and out of their own homes, several times a day, indefinitely. That is a meaningfully different activity from covering your own front path, and it is restricted by many leases as well as by data protection law in a number of places.

The workable approach is to cover your own threshold and as little else as possible. Mount close to your own door, angle down and inward, and use activity zones to exclude the corridor and any neighbouring door. A narrower lens is an advantage here, which is the opposite of the usual advice.

Turn audio off. A hallway is exactly where conversations happen between people who have not consented to being recorded, and audio is governed by wiretap law rather than by the more permissive rules covering video. The guide on this site explains why that distinction matters.

Check the lease before drilling anything, and prefer a camera that mounts without fixings. Everything on this short list will sit on an adhesive plate or a magnetic base.
