Is the BOIFUN Video Doorbell worth it?
Drawn for this site. Not a product photo.
The listing is explicit that real-time alerts, two-way audio, person detection and playback all work without a plan, which is the whole reason to look at it.
940 nm infrared is the invisible kind, so there is no red glow on the porch at night. The f/2.5 aperture and 2K sensor are modest, and the field of view is 166 degrees.
2.4 GHz only is stated plainly in the listing and is the single most common reason these come back. Check that your router still broadcasts 2.4 GHz and that the band is not hidden behind a combined SSID that confuses setup.
The 2.4 GHz trap
The listing says 2.4 GHz only, which is normal for doorbells and is also the single most common reason they get returned. Modern routers often present both bands under one network name, and the setup process cannot always find the 2.4 GHz side when they do.
If setup fails, split the bands temporarily, connect the doorbell, then recombine them. That one step resolves most of the one-star reviews this category attracts.
What it costs to keep running
Plan fees for the BOIFUN Video Doorbell over five years: $0, because it keeps its own footage; the only thing to add is a high-endurance microSD card.
With a 128 GB card, the BOIFUN Video Doorbell at 2K and about 40 minutes of clips a day holds about 7 months before the oldest clips are overwritten.
Different card or recording mode? The storage calculator uses the same assumptions.
