What actually matters here

Most cameras on this site record with no plan at all, and they get there three different ways. The way matters more than the brand.

The three routes are a microSD card in the camera, a base station that stores for a group of cameras, or a recorder with a hard drive. Cards are cheapest and have the shortest history. Base stations hold more and keep working if one camera fails. Recorders hold weeks and record continuously rather than on motion.

Watch the gap between free and usable. Nearly every camera lets you watch live without paying. What plans withhold is recorded history, person detection and the search tools that let you find the clip you need. A camera that records locally but has no way to review footage quickly is technically free and practically annoying.

If you are replacing a camera that currently costs you monthly, run the figure through the calculator before you buy. Five years of a $12.99 whole-home plan is $779, which buys the entire REOLINK system on this page with money left for cable.

You want a wired outdoor camera that records to its own card and never asks for a card number.
Look elsewhere if
You cannot get mains power to the spot. This one needs a cable.

The microSD slot is the whole argument: wired power plus a card means continuous recording with nothing to cancel.

You want 24/7 continuous recording. Battery cameras record events, not everything.
