The best security cameras for a driveway

A driveway is a distance problem, not a coverage problem.

What actually matters here

The mistake people make on a driveway is buying for field of view. A 130 degree lens covers the whole drive and renders a car at the far end as about forty pixels of grey, which tells you a vehicle arrived and nothing else.

What you actually want is resolution concentrated where the plate and the face will be, which means either a 4K sensor you can digitally zoom into after the fact, or a telephoto lens pointed at the entrance. The eufy E340 carries both a wide and a telephoto lens for exactly this reason, and the Tapo C560WS gets there with 4K plus 18x zoom on a head that turns.

Night is the second half of the problem. A plate is retroreflective and will bloom out under a bright infrared emitter at close range, while a face at the same distance stays dark. If reading plates matters, aim the camera across the drive at an angle rather than straight down it, and expect to choose between a readable plate and a readable face rather than getting both from one camera.

Vehicle detection is worth having here more than anywhere else on a property, because a driveway camera without it will notify you every time a car passes on the road beyond.

One camera has to cover a whole driveway or yard and there is power nearby.

There is no cable. Pan-tilt cameras are power-hungry and this one is wired for a reason.

4K plus 18x zoom on a head that turns, so one unit covers the drive and the path beside it.

You have a long drive or a deep garden and need detail at the far end, not just presence.
Look elsewhere if
A short approach. The telephoto lens is the reason for the price and you would not use it.

The telephoto lens reaches about 50 ft, which is the length of most drives.

You want the driveway lit and recorded, continuously, from one fixture.

There is no wiring at the spot. This replaces a mains light fitting.

You have no myQ hardware. Without that tie-in this is an ordinary 2K battery camera.

Only if the garage door is already on myQ. The integration is the reason, not the camera.
