Is the Tapo C560WS worth it?
Drawn for this site. Not a product photo.
A fixed camera sees a slice of a scene. This one turns through a full circle, which means a single unit on a corner can watch the drive, the side path and the back gate instead of one of them.
4K with 18x zoom is what makes the turning useful: you can go back into a recording and magnify a plate or a face without the image falling apart. The listing describes the AI detection, including unfamiliar-face alerts, as free rather than plan-gated.
Motors and seals are the trade. A pan-tilt head has moving parts exposed to weather, and it is the part most likely to fail first. If one fixed view genuinely covers what you need, a fixed camera will outlast this.
One turning camera instead of two fixed ones
On a driveway or a deep garden, a pan-tilt camera can replace a pair of fixed ones: it sits at 4K, follows motion, and the listing quotes 18x zoom. It also supports both 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, which helps where a fixed camera at the end of a garden struggles to hold a connection.
The trade-off is that a camera looking one way is not looking the other. If it is tracking someone at the gate it is not watching the side door, and that is the moment a fixed second camera would have mattered. The free facial recognition in the listing is processed on the camera; it is also personal data about everyone who walks past, so check your local rules before enabling it on a camera that sees the street.
What it costs to keep running
Plan fees for the Tapo C560WS over five years: $0, because it keeps its own footage; the only thing to add is a high-endurance microSD card.
With a 128 GB card the Tapo C560WS holds about 3 days of round-the-clock 4K footage, or about 4 months if it only records motion (about 40 minutes of clips a day).
Different card or recording mode? The storage calculator uses the same assumptions.
