Why people replace Arlo
The listing for the Arlo kit on this site states plainly that 60-day history, AI detection and emergency response all require Arlo Secure. For four cameras over five years that is a larger number than the hardware.
The alternatives here all store locally, either on a base station or a card. The aosu D1 kit is the closest structural replacement: four wire-free cameras, a base station with storage included, no plan.
What you lose is app maturity and the breadth of integrations. Arlo's app is better than anything from the smaller brands here, and if you have found Arlo reliable, the honest advice is to run the five-year figure and then decide rather than switching on principle.
